Hearing: capped at the transmitter
In person, every headphone's maximum is set at the transmitter - around 85 dB, the level of a busy street - and it can't be turned up on the headphone. A set is 30 minutes with a break, never 60 straight. We publish the actual reading from our gear here once the first party is measured. Online, you control the volume on your own device; we recommend headphones at half.
Online: kids are never on camera
Participant cameras are off by default and the party shows the host only. There is no open chat - reactions are hearts, claps and a raised hand. Nothing is recorded of any child. Parents can opt a clip into a 'dance wall' later; that is a choice, never a default.
A moderator in every live party
Every live session has a second adult in the room with a kill switch: one tap and the program goes to a 'be right back' card and all participant audio is off. Recordings are of the host only.
In person: two adults, parents stay for under-6s
Two Shush Kids adults at every party, a parent in the room for any child under six, a first-aid kit on the table, and a no-headphone corner where the music is still there - just quiet. Anyone besides the founders who runs a party is background-checked.
Privacy: the parent's account, a first name, an age band
There are no child accounts. We collect nothing about a child beyond a first name and an age band, from the parent, for the shout-outs. Photos at in-person parties only with written consent per child, and never of a child whose parent said no.
Music: clean edits, licensed for the room and the stream
Songs they know, clean edits only. Everything we play is licensed for the venue or the stream - which is why it's never just someone's phone on shuffle.
